Best herbal cigarettes to quit smoking
You should probably know from the start that smoking herbal cigarettes is a little different from smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes and when you first make the switch, it might take a little getting used to as they do taste very different.
What are herbal cigarettes?
Herbal cigs look very similar to regular cigarettes, with a built-in filter at one end of the tube, or roll, and they also usually come packaged in standard cigarette-style boxes. The one major difference between them is that the herbal variety contain a specific type or a blend of smokable herbs instead of tobacco.
Hemp vs other herbs
Hemp is a very popular smokable herb these days as it tastes great (most people think so anyway) and also has the bonus of providing soothing and uplifting effects. But it does also smell very similar to (ok, pretty much the same as) high-THC cannabis.
Obviously that’s fine if you’re in the comfort of your own home or live in a cannabis legal state, but what about other times? This is where herbal tea cigarettes and herbal blend cigarettes rule the roost, as you can still enjoy the act of smoking in public without getting funny looks from passersby.
Non-hemp, herbal smokes are also the preferred option for people that need to stay completely THC-free, whether that be due to local state regulations, personal preference, or regular drug-testing.
If you want to give hemp a try, then check out my best CBD cigarettes article, which features my favorite CBD cigarette brands for effects (I tested 12 brands in total), as well as the overall best hemp cigarettes for giving up smoking.
What are the best herbal cigarettes?
In all honesty, the best herbal smokes for you will depend entirely on what you want out of them. For example, some people smoke herbal cigarettes purely to satisfy their cravings for regular tobacco cigarettes. These cravings can be caused by nicotine, your habitual smoking rituals, and they can also be triggered by anxiety and stress.
Others may simply want to enjoy the act of smoking without being worried about getting addicted to a substance. Others still may seek the healing properties of the herbs contained within the cigarettes, to help them relax, relieve anxiety, or boost their mood.
That’s why we’ve split the best herbal cigarettes into different groups, to help you find the best herbal cigarette brand for you.
Best tasting herbal cigarettes
When I’m asked what are the best tasting herbal cigarettes? I feel a bit nervous about answering as I can only honestly tell you what the best tasting herbal cigarettes are for me and our tastes may be completely different!
So, while I’m happy to share my personal favorites with you here, I also highly recommend buying a few packs from different places when you first start smoking them, so that you can decide for yourself.
OK, disclaimer over… I really like the earthy, clove-y taste of these cigarettes from Nirdosh. I actually used to hate the taste of cigarettes like these, but having spent many years in Asia and accidently buying clove cigarettes, I’ve warmed to this taste over the years significantly.
Don’t be put off by the Nirdosh cigarette branding, which leaves a lot to be desired (for the US market anyway) and buy them directly from the manufacturer to take advantage of great prices ($9 for two x 20 packs), otherwise you run the risk of being charged double this amount on Amazon.
**However, clove is quite an acquired taste and if you don’t like the taste of cloves, then check out our other options below. Honeyrose have great flavored cigarettes**
- Tendu leaf
- Indian cinnamon
- Bishop’s weed
- Indian bedellium
Best herbal cigarettes for anxiety
If you’re looking for the best herbal cigarettes for anxiety, then I recommend that you try these Calm cigarettes from Chill. They have quite a refreshing, floral taste and the filter allows a smooth tasting, steady amount of smoke through with each draw, making them a very pleasant smoking experience.

The herbal blend is perfectly suited to helping you calm your racing thoughts. Mugwort, lavender, damiana, passionflower, and valerian, are all known for helping to ease symptoms of anxiety and they’re combined with 10mg of CBD isolate, which also possesses powerful anxiolytic properties, for good measure.
- Uva ursi
- Passion flower
- Valerian root
- CBD isolate (10mg)
The company, Bear Blend, takes its herbal blends very seriously and has a few different options to try (I also find their Moon blend very relaxing). They are the most expensive options on this list, so perhaps not the best herbal cigarettes to quit smoking with, but they make a lovely treat and come in a super cute reusable tin.
Bear Blend Original ingredients:
- Red raspberry
- Rose petals
- Vanilla bean
Best herbal cigarettes for flavor and choice
Honeyrose herbal cigarettes were founded in London over 100 years ago, making them one of the world’s first ever herbal cigarette brands. They were a shoo-in for this category because they have tons of variety when it comes to cigarette strength, variety, and flavor.
You can order them in light, mild, and full strengths, regular or 100’s length, with white or brown filters, and their range of flavor include menthol, vanilla, clove, strawberry, cherry, ginseng, and chocolate.
The fact that they’re designed to look exactly like regular tobacco cigarettes, even mimicking both lights and reds with the differently colored filters options, and this makes them very popular as herbal prop cigarettes.
As the best herbal prop cigarettes on the market, they’re used on film sets and in theaters whenever the script calls for a character to be smoking (can you imagine how much their sales exploded when the smoking ban came into effect?!).
You can buy Honeyrose cigarettes online or in stores. If you prefer to buy in store, then rather than search for “honeyrose herbal cigarettes near me” on Google, I recommend heading over to their website to use their handy store finder feature (https://www.honeyroseusa.com/store).

Frequently Asked Questions
Are herbal cigarettes safe?
Herbal cigarettes are tobacco and nicotine-free, but that doesn’t mean they’re risk-free and the short answer to this question is a big fat no, herbal cigarettes are not safe.
Inhaling smoke of any kind (whether it be from tobacco, hemp, herbs, or firewood) is harmful to your lung health, due to the tar, carbon monoxide, carcinogens, and other toxins it produces.
Herbal cigarette manufacturers are required by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to include a health warning label on their packaging about the risks their cigarettes can pose to your health, just like traditional cigarettes have.
However, I find that I smoke far fewer herbal and hemp cigarettes than I ever did regular tobacco cigarettes and if they keep me from going back to being a full-time tobacco smoker, then in some kind of twisted logic, they must be good for me.
Do herbal cigarettes have health benefits?
There have been many scientific studies that prove a variety of health benefits can be attributed to each herb contained within herbal cigarettes. However, there isn’t any scientific proof to say that these benefits can be accessed when consumed via inhalation, simply because the subject hasn’t been researched before.
There is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that smoking herbs can have certain effects, but at this point, they’re not backed by scientific data.
Smoking and inhaling hemp and cannabis compounds, on the other hand, has been studied, but not the kinds of herbs found in traditional herbal cigarettes (lavender, skullcap, mugwort, red raspberry).
Where to buy herbal cigarettes?
If you can, I’d recommend buying herbal cigarettes online directly from the manufacturer, as you’ll nearly always get the best price by cutting out the middleman. If your chosen brand doesn’t sell direct, then they will usually provide links to other websites that do have herbal cigarettes for sale.
Many retailers also provide store finder services online, so that you can search for “herbal cigarettes near me” and find which of your local stores stock their products.
